MCD 2010 Centenary

The Melbourne College of Divinity invites you to join them in celebrating their centenary in a number of special events throughout the year.

The Melbourne College of Divinity (MCD) was constituted by a State Act of the Victorian Parliament passed in December 1910, when the first members of the College were appointed. The College then represented the Church of England, the Baptist, Congregational, Methodist and Presbyterian churches, and by co-optation the Churches of Christ, with the support of the then Catholic Archbishop, Thomas J. Carr. The MCD is possibly the world's oldest ecumenical institution teaching theology and divinity. The College was remarkable at the time of establishment for the spirit of ecumenical co-operation, remarked the then Premier of the State of Victoria on April 20th, 1910. The Edinburgh Missionary Conference, the first to which the Protestant churches sent official representatives, took place from June 14 - 23, 1910.
