Master of Arts

The general purpose of postgraduate studies in theology is to provide an enriching and enhancing education for students at an advanced academic level, based upon an introductory award in theology. The MCD University of Divinity Master of Theology and Master of Ministry degrees enable a theological graduate to pursue further studies in Christian theology and ministry. The Master of Arts degree in research mode can overlap with these awards, but provides more particularly for graduates to engage in inter-disciplinary dialogue, with theology and ministry as partners in the conversation with others.

The MA is offered in two modes: coursework and research. The coursework mode can be taken as either a ‘general' course, requiring a student to complete 90 points of postgraduate study, or as a ‘specialised' course, focusing on a particular area of study (eg Spiritual Direction, Liturgy, Spirituality). The research mode can be taken by major thesis (40,000 words), or by minor thesis (25,000 words) plus postgraduate coursework. The MCD University of Divinity Master of Arts degree thus aims to allow candidates whose primary background may not be in
theology to pursue focused study through either a special focus in coursework, or a research track.
